McCANN – Neil J., 52 years young. Born on August 18, 1964, Neil passed away in his sleep on Nov. 23rd, 2016. He was pre-deceased by his parents Ann and Joseph McCann.
He is survived by his wife and long standing partner, Eve Marie (Cohen) McCann and his three sons: Ryan, Andrew and Christopher. He was one of eleven very close siblings:
Jeanne Marie (Jim) Ost, Sean (Sabine), Dan (Deirdre), Nancy (Bob) Nielsen, Ann (Gilbert) McCann Oakley, Joe (Sherry), Brian (Peg), Brendan (Tae), Donna (John, dec) and Mary (Jeff) McLaughlin.
His father-in-law Andrew Cohen shared lots of long, philosophical conversations with Neil. Neil loved all of his in-laws including Loretta (Kevin) Cohen Columbia and Suzanne Cohen Hamel. He had several loving aunts and uncles and a myriad of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. His cousins loved him, as did everyone.
There is not a person he met who doesn’t have a great story to tell about Neil! Neil was a hard-working, caring man with an embedded passion for family, friends, fishing, motorcycles and old cars – not always in that order. Neil was always there to offer and provide a helping hand. He was born, raised and continued to live in Floral Park – a place that he loved.
He will be remembered by so many for his commitment to family, work ethic, love of life and his sense of humor. He left so many of his dreams behind – but memories of his exploits will be shared by all he touched. His most recent passion could be witnessed through his interest in connecting with new and old friends through Facebook. His last post included a photo of him with his brothers and sisters – with a challenge to name the pictured.
Arrangements were provided by Thomas F. Dalton in Floral Park. Services were held at Dalton’s on Atlantic Avenue in Floral Park on Saturday, November 26th, 2016 from 7pm to 9:30pm and Sunday from 2pm to 5pm and 7:00 to 9:30.
Neil's memorial Mass was held at Our Lady of Victory in Floral Park on Monday, November 28, 2016 at 10:00 am.
